A 33-year-old woman is currently in police custody after allegedly using the proceeds from the sale of her 5-day-old child to pay for a £3,000 nose operation.

She was arrested in Kaspiysk, Dagestan, southern Russia, on suspicion of people trafficking.

Police records state that the mother accepted a tiny deposit of £274 from a couple who agreed to take the baby off her hands just five days after her son’s birth on April 25.

The kid became ill shortly after being purchased, and when the couple took him to the hospital, the doctors requested the boy’s birth certificate.

After the mother negotiated a fee based on the cost of a nose operation, they claimed that obtaining the birth certificate would cost them the equivalent of £1,370 a month later.

In a statement obtained by Newsflash, the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for the Republic of Dagestan said: “The investigating authorities of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for the Republic of Dagestan have initiated a criminal case against a 33-year-old resident of the city of Kaspiysk.”

“She is suspected of committing a crime under paragraph ‘h’ of Part 2 of Art. 127.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (purchase and sale committed in relation to a person who is in a state of helplessness, known to the guilty person.”

“On April 30th, 2022, the woman who had given birth was discharged from the hospital, where, having met with a local resident, she agreed to hand over her newborn son, who was in a state of helplessness, to him for a reward of 200,000 rubles.

“She then issued a waiver for the rights of the child, and the suspect received money amounting to 20,000 rubles for the child from the third party.”

On May 26th, 2022, she received the rest of the money, amounting to 100,000 rubles.

“Subsequently, information about the crime committed became known to law enforcement officers.”

“The suspect was detained in accordance with Art. 91 and 92 of the Code of Criminal Procedure of the Russian Federation.”
